On July 12, 2018, the Torch Electric Ignition System, independently developed by Jiuzhou Cloud Arrow, successfully completed dozens of ignition tests. The Torch Electric Ignition System serves as the spark that ignites liquid rocket engines, comprising components such as an ignition gas cylinder, exciter, spark plug, ignition chamber, and ignition valve. Traditional pyrotechnic ignition methods typically allow for only 1–2 engine starts; in contrast, the Torch electric ignition approach offers a significant technical advantage, enabling multiple engine starts—often up to several dozen times. This technology is one of the critical capabilities that must be mastered in the development of reusable launch vehicles, representing a key trend in the evolution of rocket engine ignition systems. For instance, Europe's next-generation Ariane 6 launcher features the VINCI engine, while SpaceX, a renowned commercial aerospace company, is developing its Raptor liquid oxygen-methane engine, and Blue Origin’s BE-4 liquid oxygen-methane engine all incorporate the Torch-type electric ignition system. Through this round of testing, the ignition characteristics of the Torch electric ignition system under various mixture ratios were thoroughly understood, and the operational timing and reliability of the ignition system were rigorously evaluated. Additionally, the stable operating limits of the ignition system were identified. The successful completion of these independently developed Torch electric ignition system tests signifies that Jiuzhou Cloud Arrow has now mastered advanced ignition technology for liquid rocket engines, which holds immense significance for achieving multiple engine ignitions. This breakthrough lays a solid foundation for the development of reusable launch vehicles! The Torch electric ignition system will subsequently participate in the joint subsystem tests of the upcoming 10-ton engine, as well as full-scale thrust chamber tests, further validating the compatibility between the ignition system and both the primary and secondary subsystems of the engine.

On July 12, 2018, the Torch electric ignition system, independently developed by Jiuzhou Cloud Arrow, successfully completed dozens of ignition tests.

The torch-type electric ignition system provides the initial spark required to start liquid rocket engines, comprising components such as an ignition gas cylinder, igniter, spark plug, ignition chamber, and ignition valve. Traditional pyrotechnic ignition methods typically allow for only 1–2 engine starts, whereas the torch-type electric ignition approach offers a significant technical advantage by enabling multiple engine starts—often up to dozens of times. This technology is one of the critical capabilities that must be mastered in the development of reusable launch vehicles, representing a key trend in the evolution of rocket engine ignition systems. For instance, Europe's next-generation Ariane 6 launcher features the VINCI engine equipped with a torch-type electric ignition system; similarly, SpaceX's highly anticipated Raptor liquid oxygen-methane engine currently under development, as well as Blue Origin's BE-4 liquid oxygen-methane engine, both incorporate this advanced ignition technology.

Through this round of testing, we have successfully characterized the ignition performance of the torch-type electric ignition system under various fuel-air mixtures, evaluated the operational timing and reliability of the ignition system, and identified its stable operating boundaries. The successful trial of this independently developed torch-type electric ignition system marks that Jiuzhou Yunjian has mastered advanced ignition technology for liquid rocket engines, which is of significant importance for achieving multiple ignitions in engine operations. This breakthrough lays a solid foundation for the development of reusable launch vehicles!

This torch-type electric ignition system will be used in the subsequent joint tests of the 10-ton engine's auxiliary systems as well as the full-scale thrust chamber, further verifying the compatibility between the ignition system and the main and auxiliary systems of the engine.
